Hagerstown BOUND
Hagerstown Public Library is pleased to announce the latest theme, "My Story." You are invited to submit your original poems, essays, short stories, and photo essays inspired by this theme until September 30, 2018. From these submissions, selections from each type will be chosen to be published in the 2019 Hagerstown BOUND Annual.

On December 1, 2018 at 5:30 p.m., a reception will be held to honor all the participants in this year's project and release the 2019 edition.

Submitting Your Work

Individuals, 3rd grade - adult, are invited to submit their ORIGINAL work to the Hagerstown BOUND project. All works submitted according to the guidelines will be included in the online Hagerstown BOUND collection. All works must be submitted by midnight, September 30 to be considered for the 2019 edition. From these submissions, selections will be chosen by a panel from each type to be published in the 2019 Annual.

All written materials must be submitted in either PDF or ePub format. Images must be submitted in high quality JPG or PNG format.

Fiction or nonfiction short stories must be 10,000 - 20,000 words for adults and teens and 1000 or more for children up to 12 years old. Up to 8 short stories will be selected for print publication.

Essays must be 1000 - 2000 words for adults and teens and 500 - 2000 words for children up to 12 years old. Up to 12 essays will be selected for print publication.

Poems must be less than 750 words. Up to 20 poems will be selected for print publication.

Visual Essays shall be a collection of 8 - 12 high quality images (photos or original artwork) with accompanying text or captions. Captions shall be no longer than 100 words each. Up to 6 visual essays will be selected for print publication.

ALL submissions must be original, unpublished, proofread and edited works.

By submitting your material(s), you agree to a non-exclusive license agreement. That means you give us permission to distribute your submission via the online platform, Biblioboard, for the purposes of viewing (but not downloading) by our patrons. You also agree, if chosen, to allow your submitted material(s) to be included in the print publication of Hagerstown BOUND. You agree that you will not receive any compensation or royalties from the sales of Hagerstown BOUND print publications, but will continue to own the rights to the content you’ve created and are free to share or sell it.
